More of the eye…
by atai @ 21:17 | Comments (2) | Filed under: updates

I went back to the clinic this morning as the eye was still quite red and still a bit swollen, especially the left one. As she had said in my previous visit, if it does not get better, she’ll be referring me to a specialist.

Still very red...

Got the referral letter and off I went to Tun Hussien Onn National Eye Hospital.

As usual, there’s the registration and the waiting… When it came to my turn, I think the specialist took some swab samples from my eyes… Not sure what else he did… It was all like a ‘dream’ and happened so fast… All I know was I was tearing like mad! My eyes wet easily and I guess that’s one reason why I never bothered trying to use contact lens. Probably before I even try putting it into my eye, I’d have already flooded the room!

I kid you not… As I was leaving the specialist’s room, I could see him taking tissue and disinfectant and cleaning up the area where I was resting my head/ chin…

Took some new medications and will need to go back on Monday for a follow up…

The eye again…
by atai @ 20:12 | Comments (1) | Filed under: updates

I was on medical leave yesterday but back to work today…

First thing when a colleague of mine sees me is to remark, “What are you doing here? Your eyes are so red! You should be back home.”

Not good…

Second colleague I see commented the same thing… That bad meh? Anyway, I decided to see the doctor at the nearby clinic… Explained to the doctor when it started, showed her the medication I was on, etc…

She said she’ll prescribe me something stronger. Saw her type the word ‘conjunctivitis‘ into the PC on her desk. The doctor added that the medication she’s prescribing is strong and if I don’t see at least a 50% improvement in the next 2 days, she’ll have to refer me to specialists. Yikes…

I’ll be at home the next 2 days as well… And this is another thing… Stay in office, colleagues are avoiding me like I have the plague. At home, I risk infecting my family. I was jokingly telling my manager I’m better of resting in my car

Still red… And some photos of Gabriel
by atai @ 17:57 | Comments (11) | Filed under: baby, updates

Eyes are still red… No longer swollen, but its still quite red…

My red eyes
This time, I don’t need Photoshop to emphasize the red eyes

Can’t stare too long at anything… So basically have been spending my time resting my eyes and body… aka sleeping. The times when I am not sleeping, I spent on watching Gabriel from far… And also playing with Mrs Tai’s Mini 10v.

Didn’t realise webcam software can be so ‘advanced’ these days. I could actually add effects and the software is ’smart’ enough to guess where to place the effects… Ya, I feel kinda ashamed to tell people I’m in the IT industry… heh heh…

Ok… Ok… I know you all don’t wanna see my photos. You wanna see Gabriel’s photos…

A hectic two weeks
by atai @ 20:46 | Comments (11) | Filed under: baby, mrs tai, updates

The last two weeks was extremely hectic for me. I don’t think I’ve ever had such a period of time that was so eventful… And tiring.

Besides Gabriel coming into our lives (yup, the name is official as of today), I was also tied up with the office relocation. While the office move was last weekend, a lot of time were spent preparing for the move. And on that ‘office move’ weekend itself, I was working almost round the clock… There was even one day that I got home ‘early’ — 7am the next morning.

My new office is in Bangsar.

A colleague from US was in town for the office move. He got me this as a gift for the new father…

And in the two weeks, there were also two visits to the hospital. One was around 9am in the morning and the other was around 3am… The hospital visits are courtesy of Gabriel. On the two occasions, it turned out that we were just overly worried. We’re just glad it was nothing serious — once was probably dehydration and the other, possibly a cold.

This morning itself, we took Gabriel to the paediatrician as his was still having blocked nose and it seems to be getting worse. Paeds confirmed he’s got a bit of cold and sore throat… *sigh* Poor boy.

Going back to about two weeks ago… This also arrived. It’s my surprise for Mrs Tai

Dell Mini 10 for Mrs Tai

A belated birthday present as well as a present for having braved through the nine months and the delivery… And the late nights that will stick for the next few months…

I know she has been hoping to get a notebook of her own so she could get some office work done, etc… She wanted something small, light and cheap… While she don’t have the time right now to play with the Dell Mini 10v, I know she’s very happy… :)

FYI, this post is being updated using the Dell Mini 10v. For me, I find the notebook (or netbook) to be generally good. Only ‘complaints’ I have is the so-called ‘floating touchpad’ and the keyboard. I really don’t know how to use that touchpad and at times, I’m really annoyed by it. As for the keyboard, I guess I just need some time to get used to it.

Did some shopping this afternoon on behalf of Mrs Tai. She asked me to get a few things and the day ended with me having used up rm700… All for Gabriel-related items… Baby-related items are not cheap!

Mobile for the cot

Baby food warmer
Some of the items I bought

Never send a guy out to do shopping without a shopping list. I thought i could be proud of myself and tell Mrs Tai that I helped out… When I got home, I realised I left out a few items including rice — ya, I forgot to buy food.

p/s: Gabriel’s photos will come in 1-2 days time…

Baby, mummy and daddy updates…
by atai @ 16:38 | Comments (20) | Filed under: baby, mrs tai

Baby and mummy are doing fine… There’s a chance Mrs Tai might be discharged today. See how it goes later today…

I’m not feeling too good right now. Might be coming down with flu… Very, very bad timing…

Did someone say photos…? :)

It’s a boy…!
by atai @ 5:29 | Comments (24) | Filed under: baby, mrs tai

Just got back from UMMC… I’m going to get some sleep after this. I have been told by many that sleep’s not going to come by so easily for the next 12 months or so… I guess I better enjoy my sleep tonight.

Anyway, both Mrs Tai and our baby boy is fine. I managed to take some photos of our baby boy but too tired to post it up now…

I guess that’s all for now…

Time and money
by atai @ 21:54 | Comments (3) | Filed under: thoughts

There is a very interesting radio advertisement that is currently playing on MY FM (not sure if its playing on other channels). It goes something like this…

A mother goes into this shop and asks the shopkeeper…
Mother: I need some vitamins and supplements for my growing kids. Is there anything else you can recommend?
Shopkeeper: Hmmm… Naturel cooking oil.
Mother: Naturel cooking oil?
Shopkeeper: Yes. Having home cooked meal at least once a day is the best thing growing kids can ever have.
Mother: I know… But you know the nature of my job… I have to do overtime all the time…
Shopkeeper: Oh… I see. Earning money is more important than your kids’ health…
(There was an awkward silence)
Mother: I don’t mean it that way…
Shopkeeper: I know… I understand. So, do you still want the oil?
Mother: Yes…
Shopkeeper: You have the time to cook for them?
Mother: I will find the time to cook for my kids…

I like this advertisement because it really reflects how most of us would be these days…

We ‘reason’ to ourselves that we need to earn lots of money so we can give our kids a ‘good’ life. But is life for the kid ‘good’ if they hardly see their parents? Is life really ‘good’ if the kid sees the maid more than the parents? Like the mother in the radio advertisement, its really an excuse rather than a reason.

We always say there will still be time… I’ll still be around. After I find enough money, I’ll retire and spend time with them… Here’s a poser… If you have only ONE year to live, are you going to spend that one year trying to make as much money as possible, or spend that one year with your loved ones?

And here’s something else to reflect on…
If your kids know you’re leaving them with rm10 million each when you die, don’t you think they’ll want you to die as soon as possible?

If you have nothing for them when you leave but can only spend time with them while you’re still around, don’t you think they’ll want you to be around ‘always’?

Money left behind will not really remind them of you. Your kids may have a good life while they still have some money to spend. Once its gone, they have to start working and earning more money. There won’t be much of ‘you’ for them to remember and cherish… But time spend with them… It lasts as long as they live…

And it’s not just with the kids. The same goes for our other family members… Believe it or not, time spent together is always worth more than any money one can ever make.
