Our ‘first’ Chinese New Year at Setia Alam
by atai @ 23:17 | Comments (0) | Filed under: greetings, updates

Well, it’s not really the first since we have moved into this place more than one year now.

What makes this year different is that we decorated the house and try to really make it lively (well, minus the fact that we didn’t actually have time to really clean up the house and that the two Ikea cabinets are still waiting to be assembled).

So, presenting our mini effort…

Our first CNY decor at Setia Alam

Mrs Tai had a shock when she saw what I had done! She commented that it looks like a classroom now…

I told here that was the idea. The theme for this year is ‘Back to classroom’… OK, OK… I’ll try and do a better job next time. Oh, ya… That’s the new 14″ super-duper slim, 3D TV on the wall… :)

Pssst… The decorations were only put up on the evening of the SECOND day of CNY.

One more thing… GONG XI FA CAI!!! :)

Goodbye 2009… Hello 2010…
by atai @ 23:31 | Comments (2) | Filed under: greetings

There are a few photos I want to post but I think I’ll leave it for next year… Procrastinating… What a way to end 2009 and start 2010, huh? ;)

Seriously, there’s hardly any time left if I take out all the time spent ’serving’ Gabriel. What little left is used for sleeping (ok, this one takes quite a huge ‘bit’), cleaning the house (or at least try to) and also for some quality time with Mrs Tai

Anyway, going to sign off for the year… Wishing everyone a Happy New Year and may 2010 bring even better opportunities and rewards to everyone…

One year in Setia Alam
by atai @ 22:17 | Comments (9) | Filed under: greetings, setia alam

We’ve moved in for a year… Lots of things happened and didn’t happen in this one year…

Things that ‘happened’…
* got cabinets from Ikea
* Gerger went missing… Then was found and back with us
* planted grass and flowers
* got a washing machine
* made several trips to UMMC
* signed up for organic vegetables delivery service
* got an aircond for our room…
* found a turtle
* garden (grass and flowers) all died
* got another sofa… Ya, we have two… The first one was ‘rejected’ by many family members…
* Gabriel

Things that didn’t happen…
* some cabinets from Ikea is still not assembled yet. Well, I’ve still got a few days before the year officially ends…
* yet to do up the garden again….
* given up on ‘cleaning’ up and doing the finishing touches to the house… Never say you’ll do something after you move in… You’ll just end up being too lazy to do it…
* strike the jackpot… heh heh… Don’t buy, how to strike?!?
* Gerger is still not back with us yet. Wall is currently being done. Then there’s the grass. Then Gerger will be back with us…

OK, that about sums up one year…

And MeRrY Christmas…!!! :)

Tasty curry noodles in Klang
by atai @ 21:32 | Comments (2) | Filed under: food, greetings

We have been to this restaurant called Great Nature Enterprise a few times already, but we would usually order a few dishes and rice.

Last week, Mrs Tai and I decided to have our lunch there. We wanted to try out their noodles and fried rice. This is actually one way to tell if a place is good or not. There are a few individual dishes that I would normally order and from there, I would know if the place is good or not. These dishes include curry noodles, (vegetarian) bak kut teh and assam laksa.

Great Nature Enterprise has got curry noodles and assam laksa but not bak kut teh. So we tried the curry noodles and the sweet & sour oyster mushroom rice. I found the sweet & sour oyster mushroom to be a bit too sour for my taste — possibly a bit too much of vinegar. But the curry noodles was superb! I can dare say that it is one of the best curry noodles I have ever tasted, beating even those with real meat (remember… I only became a vegetarian about 5 years back). Even Mrs Tai agreed that the curry noodles was one of the best! Besides the curry noodles and sweet & sour oyster mushroom rice, we also had deep fried golden needle mushroom with pepper and salted. There was also a bowl of complimentary soup — watercress.

This evening, we went back there again. We wanted to find out if the quality of the curry noddles was consistent or not. We ordered the curry noodle, seaweed fried rice and deep fried butter mushroom.

We were not disappointed. The curry noddles is as good as I remembered it to be. The soup is thick! The portion is generous! I could see lots of vegetables and potatoes in the soup! Seaweed fried rice was nothing out of the ordinary but it is nice. It is not too salty. The same goes for the butter mushroom. It’s nothing extraordinary but it’s still nice. I preferred last week’s deep fried golden needle mushroom though…

This is definitely the place I would recommend family and friends, especially to try out the curry noodles! The food served does not really have an overpowering taste. They are not bland either. Price is also quite decent.

Here are some photos of the food we have last week and this evening…

Teacher’s Day
by atai @ 22:17 | Comments (0) | Filed under: greetings, mrs tai

Mrs Tai texted me to tell me that she was very pleasantly surprised when a few nurses came to wish her “Happy Teacher’s Day” this morning.

Mrs Tai did not even realised it was Teacher’s Day since she has been away from school for a few weeks now. What more, she was very surprised that the nurses actually remembers that she is a teacher (some of them are student nurses and they had asked her some questions for their assignment a few days earlier).

Yup, today is Teacher’s Day in Malaysia… To all the teachers, “Happy Teacher’s Day”.
