The last two weeks was extremely hectic for me. I don’t think I’ve ever had such a period of time that was so eventful… And tiring.
Besides Gabriel coming into our lives (yup, the name is official as of today), I was also tied up with the office relocation. While the office move was last weekend, a lot of time were spent preparing for the move. And on that ‘office move’ weekend itself, I was working almost round the clock… There was even one day that I got home ‘early’ — 7am the next morning.
A colleague from US was in town for the office move. He got me this as a gift for the new father…
Cigar for the baby boy’s father
And in the two weeks, there were also two visits to the hospital. One was around 9am in the morning and the other was around 3am… The hospital visits are courtesy of Gabriel. On the two occasions, it turned out that we were just overly worried. We’re just glad it was nothing serious — once was probably dehydration and the other, possibly a cold.
This morning itself, we took Gabriel to the paediatrician as his was still having blocked nose and it seems to be getting worse. Paeds confirmed he’s got a bit of cold and sore throat… *sigh* Poor boy.
Going back to about two weeks ago… This also arrived. It’s my surprise for Mrs Tai…
A belated birthday present as well as a present for having braved through the nine months and the delivery… And the late nights that will stick for the next few months…
I know she has been hoping to get a notebook of her own so she could get some office work done, etc… She wanted something small, light and cheap… While she don’t have the time right now to play with the Dell Mini 10v, I know she’s very happy…
FYI, this post is being updated using the Dell Mini 10v. For me, I find the notebook (or netbook) to be generally good. Only ‘complaints’ I have is the so-called ‘floating touchpad’ and the keyboard. I really don’t know how to use that touchpad and at times, I’m really annoyed by it. As for the keyboard, I guess I just need some time to get used to it.
Did some shopping this afternoon on behalf of Mrs Tai. She asked me to get a few things and the day ended with me having used up rm700… All for Gabriel-related items… Baby-related items are not cheap!
Some of the items I bought
Never send a guy out to do shopping without a shopping list. I thought i could be proud of myself and tell Mrs Tai that I helped out… When I got home, I realised I left out a few items including rice — ya, I forgot to buy food.
Just got back from UMMC… I’m going to get some sleep after this. I have been told by many that sleep’s not going to come by so easily for the next 12 months or so… I guess I better enjoy my sleep tonight.
Anyway, both Mrs Tai and our baby boy is fine. I managed to take some photos of our baby boy but too tired to post it up now…
Mrs Tai went for her routine check-up this morning. I accompanied her this time around and got to see the baby through the ultrasound scan. Wow, Mrs Tai was not kidding when she told me after each check-up that the baby is quite active. I got to see it for myself and even the doctor who attended to Mrs Tai commented the same thing. One second baby would have the hands covering the face (shy?!?) and the other second, baby’s hands could be somewhere else…
The checkup at UMMC didn’t take that long this time. We managed to get out of the place before noon and off we went for lunch. After lunch, I asked Mrs Tai if she was up for a movie and she said OK (‘ex-gf’ = ‘wife’ la… upgraded from ‘gf’ already ma). So we ended up at GSC1Utama for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is definitely a feast for the eyes… Lots of action and robots. But I think Michael Bay is killing the Transformers. Aiyoh… Devastator is now a four-legged beast on leash? And a transformer robot that’s a cross between alien monster (from Alien) and alien ‘human’ (from Species)?
Frankly, I felt that this time around, Transformer robots were the extra and the main stars were the American soldiers. The American soldiers defeated the Decepticons with very little help from the Autobots. Somehow, I left the cinema feeling like this is the prequel to the upcoming GI Joe movie (see trailer below)…
Mrs Tai informed told me that the doctors said she will have to remain in hospital for at least a few more days.
This is something I had expected as I know the gynae looking into her case is a very cautious doctor who puts safety above everything else. He just wants to ensure both Mrs Tai and fetus is alright and being is the hospital is the ‘best’ place you can be — doctors and nurses are everywhere!
The past two weeks have been hectic for me as well… Juggling between work and personal life. Lots of things to be done in the office. Back home, there’s a lot more to be done as well. There’s also the visits to the hospital (I have to admit, its not daily visits), etc… This is one time I wish there’s 48 hours in a day!
This morning, when Mrs Tai went for her check-up (we have decided to stick to UMMC instead of UMSC), the gynae told her that she should be admitted since she was still having some slight bleeding. We’re not too sure yet how long she will be in the hospital. But from the last admission, it could be for about one week.
In case you’re wondering… Scan shows baby is doing fine. In fact, during the visit to the emergency and trauma centre two weeks back, the scan shows baby very active and moving about.
I didn’t realise washing clothes by hand can be such a time consuming and strenuous task. Almost every night, Mrs Tai would spend about an hour doing the washing…
So, for Valentine’s Day, I got her a…
Washing machine
It’s a Samsung front loading washing machine. But seriously, Mrs Tai says that I didn’t really buy it for her but rather for myself. Her reasoning is that the bulk of clothes she washes every night is actually mine. If she does not wash for 2-3 days, I’m the one who does not have anything to wear.
I told her that with the washing machine, she’ll have more free time to do other things such as spend quality time with me… And iron the clothes… heh heh… OK, I know I’ve been lazy and not really helping out with the housework so far. Mental note: Will improve on this aspect…
I’m really, really tired. My arms feel so heavy. The past two days, we had been painting and just painting… I think I’ve inhaled so much of the paint smell (the primer is not water-based) that at times, I really felt like throwing up.
Mrs Tai was much ‘stronger’ in this sense. So she covered the small areas like the corners and edges while I did the big areas (so I can quickly get out of the rooms, etc). I’m glad to say that we’re almost done with the primer/ base coat.
Solid surface or kitchen top will be installed on Friday. We plan to finish painting the key walls on Saturday so that the lights can be installed on Sunday. After that, we can slowly move out stuffs in… Setia Alam… Here we come!!!
Oh ya… The way things are looking, its very likely that the ‘house warming’ party will only be in January… Probably the same time we do a Chinese New Year party!
