A hectic two weeks
by atai @ 20:46 | Comments (11) | Filed under: baby, mrs tai, updates

The last two weeks was extremely hectic for me. I don’t think I’ve ever had such a period of time that was so eventful… And tiring.

Besides Gabriel coming into our lives (yup, the name is official as of today), I was also tied up with the office relocation. While the office move was last weekend, a lot of time were spent preparing for the move. And on that ‘office move’ weekend itself, I was working almost round the clock… There was even one day that I got home ‘early’ — 7am the next morning.

My new office is in Bangsar.

A colleague from US was in town for the office move. He got me this as a gift for the new father…

Cigar for the baby boy's father

And in the two weeks, there were also two visits to the hospital. One was around 9am in the morning and the other was around 3am… The hospital visits are courtesy of Gabriel. On the two occasions, it turned out that we were just overly worried. We’re just glad it was nothing serious — once was probably dehydration and the other, possibly a cold.

This morning itself, we took Gabriel to the paediatrician as his was still having blocked nose and it seems to be getting worse. Paeds confirmed he’s got a bit of cold and sore throat… *sigh* Poor boy.

Going back to about two weeks ago… This also arrived. It’s my surprise for Mrs Tai

Dell Mini 10 for Mrs Tai

A belated birthday present as well as a present for having braved through the nine months and the delivery… And the late nights that will stick for the next few months…

I know she has been hoping to get a notebook of her own so she could get some office work done, etc… She wanted something small, light and cheap… While she don’t have the time right now to play with the Dell Mini 10v, I know she’s very happy… :)

FYI, this post is being updated using the Dell Mini 10v. For me, I find the notebook (or netbook) to be generally good. Only ‘complaints’ I have is the so-called ‘floating touchpad’ and the keyboard. I really don’t know how to use that touchpad and at times, I’m really annoyed by it. As for the keyboard, I guess I just need some time to get used to it.

Did some shopping this afternoon on behalf of Mrs Tai. She asked me to get a few things and the day ended with me having used up rm700… All for Gabriel-related items… Baby-related items are not cheap!

Mobile for the cot

Baby food warmer
Some of the items I bought

Never send a guy out to do shopping without a shopping list. I thought i could be proud of myself and tell Mrs Tai that I helped out… When I got home, I realised I left out a few items including rice — ya, I forgot to buy food.

p/s: Gabriel’s photos will come in 1-2 days time…

Baby, mummy and daddy updates…
by atai @ 16:38 | Comments (20) | Filed under: baby, mrs tai

Baby and mummy are doing fine… There’s a chance Mrs Tai might be discharged today. See how it goes later today…

I’m not feeling too good right now. Might be coming down with flu… Very, very bad timing…

Did someone say photos…? :)

It’s a boy…!

Just got back from UMMC… I’m going to get some sleep after this. I have been told by many that sleep’s not going to come by so easily for the next 12 months or so… I guess I better enjoy my sleep tonight.

Anyway, both Mrs Tai and our baby boy is fine. I managed to take some photos of our baby boy but too tired to post it up now…

I guess that’s all for now…

Mrs Tai’s visit to hospital
by atai @ 21:17 | Comments (3) | Filed under: mrs tai

Mrs Tai went for her routine check-up today at UMMC.

It was the usual stuff… Queue up, wait for nurse… Queue up, wait for doctor…

Everything seemed fine. Blood pressure is OK. Glucose level is good. Doctor was about to let Mrs Tai off when she mentioned about her black-out last week. Alarm bells went ringing inside the doctor. The doctor quickly made a few calls (quite obvious she is still very ‘fresh’). She then ordered another battery of check-ups — resting ECG, blood test, etc… The doctor also checked Mrs Tai’s eyes to see if she was suffering from anemia. When it seems she’s not, she could jokingly tell Mrs Tai that Mrs Tai’s eyes were redder than hers! :)

When the results came back and everything was fine, the doctor was puzzled and frustrated. She commented to Mrs Tai… “Aiyah, siapa suruh kamu pening?” (translated: “Aiyah, who asked you to black-out?”). But she was joking about that statement of course… :)

And it didn’t help that on that day, according to Mrs Tai, the nurse assisting the doctor was also quite young (aka new). Otherwise, the senior nurses would normally advise the doctor and probably comment that black-out can happen during pregnancy.

Since that was not the case, Mrs Tai is required to visit UMMC again next week. While she was a ‘fun’ doctor, Mrs Tai hopes she dun get this doctor again next week…

Mrs Tai blacks out…
by atai @ 20:17 | Comments (9) | Filed under: mrs tai

We were shopping at Guardian in Setia Alam… Mrs Tai was heading towards to counter to pay for some stuff while I was still inside checking out a few items.

Suddenly Mrs Tai called me on my mobile and said she wasn’t feeling too good. She said she was outside.

I started to walk out. I could see Mrs Tai standing outside. As I walked closer to the door, I saw her starting to walk about wobbly… Got behind her just in time as she just went limp all over and fell. I managed to hold her and gently put her onto the floor while calling her repeatedly.

She suddenly turned around and looked at me as though she just got up from a nap. She remarked she was sitting on the floor. The rest of the day was spent watching Mrs Tai very closely even though she assured me that it can happen during pregnancy…

Watched Transformers with my ex-gf…
by atai @ 22:17 | Comments (6) | Filed under: baby, misc, mrs tai

Mrs Tai went for her routine check-up this morning. I accompanied her this time around and got to see the baby through the ultrasound scan. Wow, Mrs Tai was not kidding when she told me after each check-up that the baby is quite active. I got to see it for myself and even the doctor who attended to Mrs Tai commented the same thing. One second baby would have the hands covering the face (shy?!?) and the other second, baby’s hands could be somewhere else…

The checkup at UMMC didn’t take that long this time. We managed to get out of the place before noon and off we went for lunch. After lunch, I asked Mrs Tai if she was up for a movie and she said OK (’ex-gf’ = ‘wife’ la… upgraded from ‘gf’ already ma). So we ended up at GSC 1Utama for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Transformers 2 movie poster

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is definitely a feast for the eyes… Lots of action and robots. But I think Michael Bay is killing the Transformers. Aiyoh… Devastator is now a four-legged beast on leash? And a transformer robot that’s a cross between alien monster (from Alien) and alien ‘human’ (from Species)?

Frankly, I felt that this time around, Transformer robots were the extra and the main stars were the American soldiers. The American soldiers defeated the Decepticons with very little help from the Autobots. Somehow, I left the cinema feeling like this is the prequel to the upcoming GI Joe movie (see trailer below)…

I was on leave today to accompany Mrs Tai to UMMC for her routine check-up. Mrs Tai is fine and the fetus (or is it baby now?) is growing healthily.

Oh ya… We bumped into Dean at the restaurant and he joined us for lunch…

Mrs Tai discharging today…
by atai @ 13:29 | Comments (3) | Filed under: mrs tai

Mrs Tai’s gynae spoke to her this morning and told her that he would actually prefer she continue to stay in UMMC. But hospital is not really the best place to ‘rest’. There are lots of germs around and since she’s relatively healthy, the doctor told her that she could leave if she wants to.

So, what else?? Mrs Tai wants to get out of the hospital la…

I’ll be picking Mrs Tai up this evening and she will be going back to her parent’s place.

Teacher’s Day
by atai @ 22:17 | Comments (0) | Filed under: greetings, mrs tai

Mrs Tai texted me to tell me that she was very pleasantly surprised when a few nurses came to wish her “Happy Teacher’s Day” this morning.

Mrs Tai did not even realised it was Teacher’s Day since she has been away from school for a few weeks now. What more, she was very surprised that the nurses actually remembers that she is a teacher (some of them are student nurses and they had asked her some questions for their assignment a few days earlier).

Yup, today is Teacher’s Day in Malaysia… To all the teachers, “Happy Teacher’s Day”.

More Mrs Tai updates
by atai @ 17:39 | Comments (12) | Filed under: baby, mrs tai, updates

Mrs Tai informed told me that the doctors said she will have to remain in hospital for at least a few more days.

This is something I had expected as I know the gynae looking into her case is a very cautious doctor who puts safety above everything else. He just wants to ensure both Mrs Tai and fetus is alright and being is the hospital is the ‘best’ place you can be — doctors and nurses are everywhere!

The past two weeks have been hectic for me as well… Juggling between work and personal life. Lots of things to be done in the office. Back home, there’s a lot more to be done as well. There’s also the visits to the hospital (I have to admit, its not daily visits), etc… This is one time I wish there’s 48 hours in a day!
