OMG! We need more professional ‘leaders’
by atai @ 9:17 | Comments (0) | Filed under: poleticks,ramblings,thoughts

Dunno if the I should put ‘professional’ in inverted commas or ‘leaders’. But since I don’t view the person as a leader, I guess I’ll put the inverted commas on ‘leader’.

OMG twitter remark
Screenshot from The Star Online

When friends ask me for advise, I always tell them to be ‘smart’ about what you post on the internet — be it a reply in forums, FB posts or even tweets on Twitter. What more if you are a public figure. We should always be mindful of what we speak or write.

As a leader, is it necessary to keep everyone in ‘suspense’ over the stupid OMG remark? Do you need to tweet about the movie you are watching halfway? Would a responsible person tweet something that leaves it open to interpretation?

What if we see someone tweet “Running away from the psycho stalker”? Naturally we’d think the person is in such a situation and needs assistance. Then one week later, the person says… “Oh, its just a movie I was watching.”

You’d be wondering if it’s April Fool’s day or the person is just trying to be a clown, right?

Empty vessels
by atai @ 19:17 | Comments (2) | Filed under: poleticks,ramblings,thoughts

No doubt every individual is unique. No two person in the world is the same. And so, we have different attitudes, different characteristics, different beliefs, different ideologies, different looks, etc…

In a planet filled with diversity, we need to respect each other. Not run them down or chase them out.

We also need to understand some are born less smart than others… Hence the “empty vessels” and their remarks appearing in papers, blogs, etc… In such cases, its always better to just ignore such remarks. After all, when a madman on the street starts talking nonsense or when a mad dog at the road side starts barking, we just cautiously walk away, right?

Is this allowed?
by atai @ 17:17 | Comments (2) | Filed under: poleticks

This time, it is Sibu by-election.

Prime Minister says:

“I want to make a deal with you. Can we have an understanding or not?” Najib asked some 1,000 people who attended a public rally at the residential area.

“The understanding is quite simple. I help you, you help me,” said the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman.

BN’s Robert Lau Hui Yew is contesting against Sarawak DAP chairman Wong Ho Leng and independent Narawi Haron in the by-election.

“If Robert Lau becomes the MP on Sunday, on Monday I will ask the cheque to be prepared,” Najib told the all-Chinese audience.

and:

“Do we have a deal or not? We do! You want the RM5 million, I want Robert Lau to win,” he told the crowd.

I’m no law expert but… Isn’t this bribery?

If I go to my customer and tell him that if I win the contract his company is offering out to vendors, he’ll get rm5million… Isn’t that bribery?

What I learnt in the past two weeks…
by atai @ 22:17 | Comments (4) | Filed under: poleticks

I’m not against anyone working in the public sector. But let’s face it… Things get done very slowly. I do admit that there have been improvements, but to reach the level where we will generally be satisfied… It’s a long way to go. Sometimes it’s not the people’s fault — it’s the process. It could be too much paperwork, too many levels of approval, or heck, paperwork getting lost somewhere.

I mean… How easy is it to prove your citizenship and get your MyKad? Or get electricity to a school that’s been without it for ages? What about getting rm3million for a chinese school — as I understand, government will only fund national schools which uses the Malay language as the medium of teaching. From what I know, it could take years…

But from what I have seen in the past two weeks, sometimes things can happen just ‘overnight’.

So, I guess what I learnt from all these is that if I want to see improvement in my area, I should wish for my MP drop dead — yeah, I know its a bad thing to wish on a person. But hey, if the MP is true about doing the best for his or her area, he or she would agree that rm160 million is a lot of money and should not mind dropping dead. After all, the need of the many outweighs the need of the few (or one).

Perhaps, they may even get more than rm160 million since Hulu Selangor is a very quiet & sleepy town.

But seriously… Where did this rm160 million come from? Oh wait… From the tax I paid! WTF?!? Was this rm160 million budgeted? I don’t recall hearing anything about developing Hulu Selangor during the budget presentation! Since its my money, can I put the rm3 million donated to school as part of my tax relief? I’m not against developing the country, but I would like to see my money spent correctly and in a properly planned manner.

Here’s an article from Malaysia Today which I think you should really read and understand. I think it’s a very good article and opens our eyes: The Hulu Selangor by-election debacle: Is it worth it, Najib? by Guest Columnist.

Is this development or bribery?

p/s: If I’m a Sibu constituent, I’ll definitely be looking forward to a similar deal (rm160 million) come this May 2010 by-election, or else I’m sure going to feel short-changed.

The MCA leadership
by atai @ 13:17 | Comments (4) | Filed under: poleticks

Long time ago, there existed TWO factions in a group. Even though they belonged to a group and had the SAME group objectives, somehow, the members had different objectives on their own. Not long after that, an agreement was reached and a so-called truce was put in place. The group existed as one again (or did it?)…

Then a few months back, it was ‘revealed’ that there are now THREE factions in the group… And very recently, FOUR.

Yes, I’m talking about MCA. Even though it looks more like two factions, I believe there are actually four factions, with the four forming two teams. But honestly, based from what I have read, the four can’t really work together. I’d think that eventually, the winning team will still split into two again…

I really do wonder… If one wants to serve the community, does one need to be on TOP to do it? You mean if you’re not the leader of the team/ group, you can’t serve the community? I really do wonder if these four teams have the community’s interest at heart…

This reminds me of a story told to me when I was a kid. It’s one of those stories with some moral teachings behind it. It goes something like this…

Two mothers were fighting over a baby. Both mothers claimed that they are the rightful mother. They both fought and argued and finally decided to take this case to the court. The judge asked both mothers questions related to the baby and both could answer even the most intimate details about the baby. The judge was at a loss on what to do. So he decided that both mothers would pull the baby from one side and the mother that is successful would be the deemed the legal mother. But this would mean the baby could be torn in two! As the judge was about to prepare the baby, one mother cried and said she would give up. She did not want to see the baby get hurt.

The judge concluded that the rightful mother was the one who gave up. Only a caring and loving mother would never risk her child.

Non-disclosure clause
by atai @ 22:17 | Comments (0) | Filed under: poleticks,sarcasm

It seems that these days, everyone seems to have secretly recorded conversations, etc…

I think the next time I go to a gathering or speak to anyone, I need to make them sign a document that says they cannot record the conversation and if some how a recording is made available to the public, they will have to pay me XXX amount… I’m thinking of rm5 million.

What do you think?

RPK is free!
by atai @ 20:17 | Comments (0) | Filed under: poleticks,thoughts

RPK is free! The Shah Alam High Court has found his arrest under ISA to be unlawful.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. I guess this is Malaysia’s first step towards a more more transparent and equal Malaysia… :)

Free RPK
by atai @ 23:17 | Comments (1) | Filed under: poleticks,ramblings

Free RPK t-shirt

I got myself the “FREE RPK” t-shirts. That’s the least I could do besides signing the online petition. Hopefully by wearing this t-shirt around, I can help raise awareness about the Internal Security Act (ISA).

If the government’s intention is to scare people into submission with the ISA, I think it is working. I was wearing this t-shirt and getting ready to go out when my mum suggested that I go change to a ‘regular’ t-shirt. She was worried that the police might just detain me and give me a few punches just for the fun of it.

For me, I find the reasons for using the ISA on RPK is quite ridiculous. I think RPK has done a lot to raise our awareness as citizens of Malaysia through the website – Malaysia Today. I just can’t see how he can be a threat to national security. If you ask me, I think the Mat Rempits are more of a threat to national security than RPK. Even MY FM DJ Jack Lim was ‘almost’ a victim of these hooligans…

Who is running the country?
by atai @ 23:17 | Comments (0) | Filed under: poleticks

If everyone is busy trying to safeguard their position (with all the murder, exorbitant car maintenance, corruption and sodomy accusations), who has actually got the time to run the country?

Malaysia’s gone to the dogs…

*sigh*

Anwar arrested
by atai @ 21:21 | Comments (0) | Filed under: poleticks

Anwar Ibrahim has been arrested. Not that I’m a supporter or anything.

Of late, I find our local politics to be very ‘entertaining’.

I just hope he does not fall down the stairs or something and get a black eye
