First class infrastructure, third class mentality…

…everywhere. On highways…
Actually, what is the point of having an emergency lane if no emergency vehicles actually use it, or that broken-down vehicles can’t stop there?
Back to topic. At parking lots…
A case of too many parking lots?? So many that the driver decided he could park anyway and no one will notice…

The way this vehicle parked has deprived another vehicle of a parking lot
Against traffic flow!
It seems residents of Setia Alam like to do this

One way street? Apparently not!
Going over greens meant for pedestrians…
Environment conscious driver? Apparently using a shortcut across the greens help saves fuel!

Permanent shortcut… Courtesy of inconsiderate motorcyclists.
You can take a person out of the kampung, but you can’t take the kampung out of the person.

This website a danger to Gabriel?
by atai @ 22:43 | Comments (4) | Filed under: sarcasm,thoughts
Mrs Tai and I got an earful recently from someone who was very concern about Gabriel’s safety. This person reprimanded us (and specifically me) for writing ‘personal’ stuff and posting Gabriel’s photos. We were told that Gabriel is too adorable and would definitely be a target for kidnappers who would want to kidnap him and then sell him.
It seems this person had recently read in the papers about an attempted kidnapping. The kidnappers had managed to find out about this kid’s background and family history from his posts on the internet.
While I appreciate this person’s concerns and the fact that she thinks Gabriel is one handsome boy, I was also equally upset because I find I was being reprimanded for a ‘no issue’. I tried to convey my points but this person just would not listen.
Now, going by this person’s logic and reports in the newspaper, I guess it would mean that from now on…
* we cannot take Gabriel out to the greens just in front of our house for evening walks because we can never tell — there might be kidnappers on the lookout for victims.
* we cannot go to our in-law’s place in Seri Kembangan because there have been many crimes committed in that area. Remember the Public Bank case where robbers broke into the safe deposit box? There were also many gangsterism reports, murders, etc… We would be better off in Setia Alam, where it is reportedly the place with lowest crime rates in Klang Valley.
* we should not be going shopping as it is also where kidnappers are on a lookout for victims — I also got this from the newspaper. That also means family holidays would be a no-no because by the same logic, if you can afford a holiday, you’re probably very wealthy.
Heck, the only thing we should do is probably keep Gabriel at home. We can’t have him learn how to access the internet because he might post something on the internet and be ‘discovered’ by kidnappers.
And again, going by the same logic, it would also mean that by the time Gabriel is of school-going age, we cannot have him take the school bus. We’ll need to hire security personnel to escort him home. After all, there have been many reports of kidnapping occurring just outside the school compound.
Anyway, one might be wondering… Why am I maintaining this website?
Well, the reason is because I have many family and friends who don’t live nearby. Some are people I only get to see once in every few years but they are genuine in wanting to know what’s happening in our lives. This site would be a good way for them to keep up-to-date. Plus, I get to meddle around with web-hosting and website creation.
Between this (having my own domain) and using social networks like Facebook, I believe I’m ‘safer’ here. And if I really want to delete everything on this site, I can do it with relative ease. Speaking of this — how difficult (or easy) do you think it would be to try and permanently delete ALL your posts on Facebook? Do you think closing the account would automatically delete everything? If you though so, you might want to find out more!
Back to the subject… I’d also like to think that if a kidnapper was trying to profile my family from this site, they would probably have figured that we’re not worth the trouble — we are not millionaires. We don’t have relatives who are (well, at least I don’t think I have)… I’d be a lousy target! Heck, like many others, we’re struggling and working our butts off just trying to pay off the car loan, the kitchen cabinet, etc… I don’t even have a bl00dy TV (ya, I’m still quite upset about this whole incident)!
But seriously, am I sharing out too much?
And you know what’s even more ironic about all this? The person who reprimanded us don’t even know how to operate a computer or even know how to get to my website. This person was probably only shown my site only once or twice before… So it makes me wonder… Who’s ratting out on me (and adding salt and spice along the way)?
Being proactive

It seems that the local agencies require people to officially lodge a report before they can start investigations. They cannot start an investigation based on hearsay. They need someone to provide them with proof before that can ‘investigate’.
Show us proof and DCA will crack the whip

“We have heard people in the Malaysian aviation industry complaining, but we cannot take action on hear-say. The department needs proof before we can investigate the matter and take appropriate action,” said DCA director-general Datuk Azharuddin A. Rahman.
Hmmm… If someone can provide them with proof, then what more is there to investigate?
If the police only overheard (or got an unofficial/ anonymous tip-off) that there’s someone making a bomb in a housing estate but no one actually lodged a report or provide them with proof (maybe photographs of the people making bomb), does it mean the police will not act?
Can’t these agencies be proactive? So much for progress… No wonder our country still seems to be heading nowhere…
Non-disclosure clause

It seems that these days, everyone seems to have secretly recorded conversations, etc…
I think the next time I go to a gathering or speak to anyone, I need to make them sign a document that says they cannot record the conversation and if some how a recording is made available to the public, they will have to pay me XXX amount… I’m thinking of rm5 million.
What do you think?
