Jimat dan SENang
by atai @ 8:17 | Filed under: misc

I had my first experience with the new rounding mechanism last Sunday. The Jimat dan SENang (translated to English, it means SAVE AND EASY - the SEN is used as word play) is the government campaign aimed at introducing the rounding mechanism based on the TOTAL amount of a bill. The total amount is rounded to the nearest 5 sen.

Last Sunday, I went to Pet Family to buy some bedding for my hamsters. The bill came to rm6.98 but I ended up paying rm7.00 instead because of the rounding mechanism. The new mechanism didn’t save me any money… I ended up paying 2 sen more! So much for the JIMAT part… :(

  1. i agree on Senang…..but not on Jimat for consumers……

Jimat is for BNM….on saving of producing 1cent coin….

    the advert is abit misleading……

retailers will not hesitate price 2.99 or 19.99….since they are getting 3 or 20 instead under the rounding mechanism…..wat a BIG BS?

  2. Haha. I can foresee a lot of prices ending with XX.98.

  5. yalor tengster, i find the campaign name to be very misleading. dun really ‘jimat’, like in my case. maybe Bank Negara jimat la… but definitely not me.

anttyk, luckily its total bill amount. but as consumer, does it mean we’ll be wiser if we ‘break down’ our purchases… imagine:
    Ketchup @ rm3.42
    Chilli Sauce @ rm3.51
    Toilet rolls @ rm8.10
TOTAL would be RM15.03, means pay rm15.05. Get wife/ gf to queue behind and one person buy Ketchup only, and the other buy toilet rolls and chilli sauce… End up pay only rm15. :)

    Suddenly simple shopping becomes complicated…
