Mrs Tai was admitted to the hospital this morning as planned. She is supposed to go in one day earlier so the doctors could monitor the situation and at the same time, get Mrs Tai ready for the Caesarian section. We arrived at the hospital around 0800hrs as planned and waited till the bed was ready. I wasn’t a really long wait though I did doze off at the reception area…
Once we got to the hospital bed, it was a matter of minutes before Mrs Tai found herself strapped to some gizmo and had her blood sample taken (that like X times in the past month, according to Mrs Tai). The gizmo is actually used to measure the baby’s heartbeat and the straps were actually used to keep the baby in place (so the baby don’t move around in the belly). The gizmo was set to record the heartbeat for 30minutes. It seems the baby is very active with lots of ’spikes’ recorded… At times the heartbeat even went up to about 190 beats per second! I think it was supposed to be about 130 -150 beats or so… Even the nurse who strapped Mrs Tai commented about the baby being very active and moving a lot! I guess this is one feisty baby that is not easily tied down.
After that, I left the hospital. Both of us had agreed that I will not need to stay back for the first day as there’s much to do anyway. And having just joined the new company, I try to avoid taking too many days off (though I have to add that my current boss is very understanding of the whole situation and have been very supportive).
Some time around 1600hrs, Mrs Tai texted to inform me that the doctors have informed her that the Caesarian section will not proceed as planned (0800hrs the next day) as they could get hold of the ventilator for the baby… But the doctors said that they will check again on the availability tomorrow morning. If it is available then, the Caesarian section would be done in the afternoon.
*sigh*
Then at 1700hrs, Mrs Tai texted again… She said the doctors have informed her that a Professor at the hospital would like to handle our case. It is suggested that we go for a natural birth instead. Mrs Tai added that the hospital will ensure that a ventilator will be made available for us when the time comes.
So… What else? Mrs Tai quickly discharged herself from the hospital la…
But I did ask Mrs Tai why she decided to discharge herself (cause I had gotten a long ‘lecture’ from a concerned friend — yes, I think this good friend has got valid points which I didn’t think of… Like I told this friend… It’s not that I have a “Tidak apa” attitude, it’s more like I have “Tidak tahu” problem )? After all, it is always better to stay in the hospital where the doctors and nurses are available at the push of a button… Mrs Tai said she didn’t think of that. She just wanted to go home and see me… You believe that ar?!?
So… I guess our baby’s birthday will not be 21st May 2008… It will be whatever the baby decides…
As for my leave plans, it’s all screwed up now. Imagine having planned to take one day off and then deciding to take only half day and finally… Not knowing when to take. Luckily, like I said, my boss says he totally understands the situation I’m in. Hmmm… Everyone in my office thinks I’m going to be a father tomorrow…
One more day to go?!? Nar… But its more time to prepare for the baby’s arrival and more time for Mrs Tai to shop!!!
I can understand how Mrs Tai feels at this moment. She wants her own ‘nest’, not in a ’strange and lonely’ nest. Shopping? Better not …. just stay at home, and rest more.
So… stay tune… ‘Father to be’… won’t be long… coming soon.
Best of luck!

BTW, have u all met with THAT professor that is interested in handling your case? If not, I really think that you both SHOULD have a meeting with him/her…and how come all of sudden it is alright for Mrs. Tai to go with natural birth? —I dunnno how things are done over there, so just curious and wanna be on the cautious side.
Ya, I was thinking either you have a very nice boss or you are sooo “valuable” to the company that knowing you’re a father-to-be in no time, yet employ you!
You are lucky!
Well, I’d say that, while waiting for your precious one to decide when she wants to “officially” meet you guys…take Lannie’s advise and rest more…shop only if you have to, but, like u said that u might have one feisty baby, there will be LOTS of sleepless nights to come! No one told us that when we first had Yesmin…we stayed up “getting” stuff ready lah, watch movies lah this this that that, then after she’s born, we took photos lah, stared at her lah…at the end, we were just worn out, with 2 panda face!
Remember, the first two months they just wanna eat eat eat…every 2 hours…leaves u no time to sleep!!! Not trying to scared u (it’s too late anyway)…but just telling u the FACTS!
hehhhee!!!
Can’t wait to hear the good news and make sure post photos ya! All the best! What’s her name gonna be anyway???

aiyah… forgot to meet the Prof today when we went to the hospital to for Mrs Tai’s routine follow up. i was there and had asked a few questions but forgot to ask if we could meet up with the Prof… i guess partly coz they are from different dept/ sections.
but more importantly, i got to speak and understand more about the whole situation (after all, everything i posted was based on what Mrs Tai had told me — not to say i can’t trust her… heh heh… but better to get the facts straight from the Dr).
we have always wanted to go for natural birth. we have even read many articles on the web about the benefits of natural birth, even for our baby’s case. just to share, i recall reading somewhere that c-section can actually be even more stressful for baby! our original doctor also suggested natural birth (original doctor moved to another hospital and we decided NOT to follow).
c-section was suggested to us as it was one way we could ensure that the ventilator and the pediatric surgeons would be available for the baby… but with the prof’s attention now, we have been assured that by hook or by crook, they will make everything available for our baby… the baby is one lucky baby…
so… it’s now wait and wait…

That’s great to know u did get the facts…ya, anything natural is always better than otherwise…unless no choice lah…it’s a relief to know that with the prof. around…they WILL get a ventilator no matter what!
Yes, now my moldy mind can remember that when ur’ close to the due day..they rather u move around more…helps speed up contractions….in fact, bumpy roads ARE actually helpful too!!!
When I had Lucas, I was having contractions and they still encourage me to walk around the ward, gently bouncing on the exercise ball…until I cannot tahan anymore!
U will be going in to the delivery room right??? Hope u don’t pensan! hahhhaha
Best wishes!
