There’s just so many things to do and so little time… I just wish there’s like 48 hours in a day…
The baby is due end of this month. We still have quite a number of things to do and prepare like (in no particular order):
1. Pack the bags - hospital admission, hospital stay and when baby is out of hospital
2. Paint the room Just completed at 1130hrs
3. Clean refrigerator (or maybe we should just get a new one since we’re going to move to our new house by end of the year anyway)
4. Baby’s car seat (need to do more research into this — seems like there are so many types that it’s gotten to a point where I got confused as to what is what — serious! there’s the stroller, stroller-and-car-seat-in-one, stroller that allows lying down and seated, etc)
5. Steriliser? Or just use tablets? Or use boiling water? Seems that plastic milk bottles may release Bisphenol A or BPA which can cause chronic toxicity. Over the weekend, we bought 2 glass milk bottles — ya, we managed to find them.
6. Wash baby clothes, napkins, etc… We are using some hand-me-downs from relatives and friends. So have to wash them first as some have been stored for months (or I was told, even years!).
7. Clean up room. Currently we have lots of books lying around in our room (have to read up on how to be good parents, etc) and there’s a bit of dust now. Will probably need to store them in plastic containers so it will be easier to clean.
8. Baby cot… Hmmm… What kind of mattress? Spring? Latex? I think we’re kind of decided on this — coconut fiber. I think its coconut anyway.
9. Diapers… Errr… Do we stock up now? What size? How much will we need? *sigh*
10. Baby grooming set - nail clippers, etc… I just found out that you can’t use the normal nail clippers for the baby!
…The list just goes on and on…
1. Pack the bags - hospital admission, hospital stay and when baby is out of hospital
T - Go easy on this. No need to be too prepared. The 4d3N affair will eventually require you to travel back and forth. No need to pack too much thing. Small tower, one set of clothes (for hospital usage), camera, handphone (fully charges, money, credit card, etc…..
2. Paint the room Just completed at 1130hrs
T - no comment
3. Clean refrigerator (or maybe we should just get a new one since we’re going to move to our new house by end of the year anyway)
T - Clean it is faster way for time being. Wait till you measure your new house kitchen onsite measurement and kitchen cabinet layout, then only buy new one. Fridge to suit the kitchen and not the other way round.
4. Baby’s car seat (need to do more research into this — seems like there are so many types that it’s gotten to a point where I got confused as to what is what — serious! there’s the stroller, stroller-and-car-seat-in-one, stroller that allows lying down and seated, etc)
T - Those Grace or local Sweet-Cherry will do the job. Keep the car seat at the rear. Not front seat. Yeah. Remember no car seat can survive high speed crash. Drive safely.
5. Steriliser? Or just use tablets? Or use boiling water? Seems that plastic milk bottles may release Bisphenol A or BPA which can cause chronic toxicity. Over the weekend, we bought 2 glass milk bottles — ya, we managed to find them.
T - Go for the steriliser is pocket is deep enough….otherwise, tablet and hot water rinsing may do the tricks.
6. Wash baby clothes, napkins, etc… We are using some hand-me-downs from relatives and friends. So have to wash them first as some have been stored for months (or I was told, even years!).
T - not a sweat. Dobby go by pound and kilo.
7. Clean up room. Currently we have lots of books lying around in our room (have to read up on how to be good parents, etc) and there’s a bit of dust now. Will probably need to store them in plastic containers so it will be easier to clean.
T - slap yourself a few times and not to procrastinate. Clean the aircond filter and ceiling fan blade too. Keep the room clean from dust as well. Vacuum the room.
8. Baby cot… Hmmm… What kind of mattress? Spring? Latex? I think we’re kind of decided on this — coconut fiber. I think its coconut anyway.
T - hmmmmm….tough one. good luck
9. Diapers… Errr… Do we stock up now? What size? How much will we need? *sigh*
T - Stock up one pack newborn size. A pack = 24pieces. And then sapu more when there is sales…..
10. Baby grooming set - nail clippers, etc… I just found out that you can’t use the normal nail clippers for the baby!
T- yeah there is infant new clippers. aka miniature clipper. Yuu Yuu Oil…..pillow, bolster, pacifier (if SOS), blanket, plastic bath bucket, contact details for nearest peady, etc. etc. etc……
Hang on there tight…..Simple one of the best experience in life.

one final advice from the oldman…
no matter how much you do, you will NEVER be 100% prepared…..take it as a challenge and lifetime experience.

Hey, remember to prepare things for Mrs Tai as well. Have you bought the herbs for her to eat or bathe after she delivers? Have you prepared the stuffs she might need to use e.g. sarong or something comfortable to wear when she goes home, special sanitary pads (yes! this is important!) etc…
And you, Mr Tai, must take care of yourself so that you have the energy to take k of your baby and wife. Make sure you sleep well. Cheers!

1) Mrs Tai’s bag should be ready by now. At least by 34 weeks of pregnancy.
2) Btw, what colour is the baby room?
3) It is advisable to clean every month.
4) In EU, maxi-cosi is the most sought out brand. What I have is BabeComfort - 4 pieces together. The frame, car sit for 0-6 months, stroller (to lie down - only for 0-4 months), and a sit up type (normally after 9 months). After those months, car seat need to be changed. Car seat for 1-3 years old and the other will be above 3 years old. Please bear in mind when choosing the stroller: wheels type, size (able to fit into your car). etc. plus yr budget. Normally after 1 year old, so long the baby can sit up by himself, then you can get the light version stroller.
5) I used to sterile the feeding bottles in boiling water.
6)Try to wash the baby clothes with perfume free soap powder. In case of allergic.
8)Coconut fiber? I haven’t heard of it.
9) A newborn baby needs around 6-8 diapers per/day.
10) It is a kind of small nail clipper in scissor form.
